Memorial contributions may be made to CBN-PG (in support of Catholic education), PO Box 615, Lanham, MD 20703 OR Miriam’s Kitchen (Food for the homeless) www.miriamskitchen.org/honor-family-member-friend-or-memory-loved-one OR Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund www.fallenheroesfund.org/Home.aspx at Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Attn: CONTRIBUTIONS, One Intrepid Square, W 46th Street & 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.

Gather together a group of Tony Laubach’s friends in a room and it’s not long before the connections start to come to light — those three folks met through a Catholic school, the two over there both volunteered at Miriam’s Kitchen, and the gang in the back works together with wounded warriors. Chances are good, though, that Tony would be the only one who had a hand in every organization represented – and there will be a lot of those.

Tony grew up in the D.C. area, attended St. Camillus Elementary School and Good Counsel High School and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1983. He entered the financial services industry in 1988, affiliated with Transamerica Financial Advisors in 1972, and became a Registered Principal in 2005, always focusing his business on helping clients meet their personal financial goals.

A longtime advocate for Catholic schools and businesses, Tony was an early member and two-time president of the Catholic Business Network of Prince George’s County and both the brain and brawn behind some of its most successful projects. He served on the advisory board of St. Jerome’s School (Hyattsville); the board of directors of Elizabeth Seton High School (Bladensburg), the board of directors of the Notre Dame Education Center (Washington DC), and CBN-PG. He was a volunteer and donor to A Wider Circle, and a regular supporter of events at St. Columba School, Forestville Pregnancy Center, and Bishop McNamara High School, among others. Combining his love of cooking with a desire to help the homeless, he volunteered as a sous chef at Miriam’s Kitchen over the past six years. His specialty was making up to 180 omelets on the breakfast shift twice a month.

Hunting and fishing were also Tony’s passions, and ones he selflessly shared with the community. An active volunteer with the Armed Forces Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Tony regularly took wounded service members skeet shooting (he organized several sporting clays tournaments for service members), hunting, and fishing. Just prior to the time of his death, he had started organizing classes on financial literacy for wounded service members being undergoing treatment at NICoE.

Tony’s most recent passion came through personal experience with his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in early 2012. His team, Tony’s Heroes, has raised nearly $50,000 over the last 2-1/2 years for pancreatic cancer research through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and PurpleStrideDC.
